Some questions about the series "His Dark Materials" are raised: Who is the pronoun "his" referring to? And what kind of materials does he apparently possess? BBC has already given a second series in 2018 and the filming of it has already started before the airing of the 1st series. A more precise start date has not yet been communicated, but it is sure that the 2nd series will start in 2020 November or December. At present, one assumes that it will start in November or December 2020.

The second season is estimated to have 8 episodes.

Everyone has a speaking, animal companion called a daemon. There are also other speaking animals like for example bears that roam the world independent of people; airships are the preferred mode of air transportation.

The dominant religion in this world has many parallels to Christianity. For example, Adam and Eve are mentioned here. The hierarchy presents something like the equivalent of the church institution in our world.

However, it's exciting and interesting to explore this world together with the eleven-year-old Lyra Belacqua (Dafne Keen): two worlds intersect in her mind, one from our world and one inhabited by magic. The wizard Scholastica (Virginia Nicholson) is Lyra's guide through this process.

Lyra is portrayed by the young actress Dafne Keen, who maybe some people still know as a largely mute mutant from the superhero film "Logan: The Wolverine". In "His Dark Materials" she also faces a dangerous adventure, sincedespite the youthful heroes series deals with mature and dark topics.

After Aaron's departure from Jordan College more mysterious things happen: Gobblers kidnap small children. Lyras' best friend Roger also belongs to the kidnapped children.

Lyra can flee to the gypsies, a impoverished nomad people. Together, they make their way on the road,saving the children.

At a high price, as it turns out: Even Asriel follows a dangerous obsession. He separates Lyras friend Roger from his daemon and sets off the energy free to open a portal to another world. Roger dies as a result and after a heart-wrenching farewell scene, Lyra follows her father into a foreign universe.

Young children are likely to be overwhelmed by the dark world, complex history and adult topics in the series. However, for young and older adults the series provides a wonderful bridge between popular Young-Adult Fantasy content like "Harry Potter" and more mature High Fantasy like "Game of Thrones" and "The Witcher".

Despite the many fantastic elements, the series is surprisingly grounded. This is likely due in part to the ambitious material, which ventures into difficult territory. Author of the adaptation Jack Thorne, who wrote for serials such as "Skins" and for the British version of "Shameless," treats both social class distinctions as well as oppression of powerless by powerful here.

The separation of human and daemon is highly symbolically charged: To protect the innocence of the children, Mrs. Coulter undergoes a sort of symbolic circumcision.

The current BBC- or Sky-series has the advantage that it allows you to spend considerably more time on her characters, providing ample opportunity to characterize them deeply. Additionally, she can provide the viewer with an in-depth understanding of the world and its history in all its facets and details.

There are numerous incentives to stay in the ball pit. The magisterium takes a larger role in the first season than it does in the first book.

The most important and largest change is the early introduction of Young Will Parry in the events. Will plays a significant role only in the second and third book. He becomes an invaluable friend and ally to Lyra. The series already hints at this by showing that he represents a key connection between the two realities.

At least one cast member will be exiting the show after filming for Season 1. The reason is that concern was raised that Dafne Keen's developing figure could be visible on screen. This would lead to continuity problems.

They then proceed to Will's world in search of the mysteries of dust-along with whatever story 2 Book tells.

Rather than appearing in the background, Coulter is already well-established with important new arrivals: this includes, for example, John Parry, the father of Will Parry, who will be portrayed by "Sherlock" and "Fleabag" actor Andrew Scott.

It seems that the series retains its complexity and continues to focus on adult themes and motives.

"The Golden Compass", the first book in the series, was published in 1995 and won a number of children's literature awards. In 1996, the author concentrated fully on his career as an author.

Nonetheless, Pullman started writing a companion piece in 2008, telling the story of "Over the Wild River" which precedes "His Dark Materials" and which will be published on March 5th in Germany.
