In September, the new Star Wars animated series, Star Wars Visions, began airing on Disney+. We've compiled all the important information about it for you here.

This is an animated series in Japanese anime style, produced by prestigious Japanese studios like Production I.G. and Studio Trigger and also the new Geno Studio and Science SARU.

The series provides an interesting addition to the Star Wars canon, which you can watch entirely on Disney+. This includes all previously released Star Wars films, real-series and animated serials.

The Star Wars franchise always inspired Japanese cinema. The director Akira Kurosawa's samurai films influenced George Lucas, the founder of the Star Wars saga - Darth Vader and his lightsaber resemble the typical samurai look for a good reason.

Japan's studios were even earlier involved in animated series like "Star Wars: Resistance." With "Star Wars: Visions" (German: Star Wars Visionen), they receive much more control over the project and tell some interesting, but very unusual short stories.

This unusual film is being directed by Junpei Mizusaki, an extraordinary filmmaker.

Junpei Mizusaki, the director of Batman Ninja, has experience directing animation films and can therefore rely on his skills to interpret western characters in a traditional Japanese way. In place of focusing on the typical, from the Star Wars universe known clashes between Jedi Knights and Siths or rebels and the Empire, "The Duel" asks what would happen if a person from an entirely unknown part of the universe were to wield a laser sword and its accompanying power.

The Tatooine Rhapsody anime appears to be completely different in style. Under the direction of Newcomer Taku Kimura from the studio Colorido, well known characters like Jabba the Hutt and Boba Fett are thrown together with completely new characters and portrayed with a cheeky cartoon style. There is also music, action, and a concert scene included.

The remains of the imperial army have raised twins on the dark side of the power. The twins are looking for a new hope after the fall of the empire. Director Hiroyuki Imaishi is playing with this in reference to the original films and Luke and Leia, the other essential twin in the Star Wars saga.

The episode investigates the background of Jedi knights and master-student relationships in a past era of this universe. Here, the Jedis face an unknown enemy.

"The Village Bride" is a traditional wedding in an unknown corner of the Star Wars universe, which however does not go smoothly. Director Hitoshi Haga has always wanted to explore various wedding customs from various planets in the Star Wars galaxy and he has now been given a chance to do that with "Star Wars: Visions."

The episode she describes as a love story between a Jedi Knight and a princess, not necessarily a happy one, is also an adventure story featuring the lovers and their friends.

The second episode from Studio Science SARU is called "T0-B1." Here, everything revolves around a small Android, who has to give up his own dreams for a larger goal - it's an unusual story about growing up.

Kamiyama has collected a few experiences in the animation film and television business. He worked on the cult classic "Akira" and directed the series "Ghost in the Shell."
